Frequently Asked Questions

I wish more clients knew why and here is the truth: I don’t currently accept insurance because the way insurance operates often interferes with the kind of care I want to provide. When using insurance, I’m required to assign diagnoses, share clinical information with third-party companies, and work within rules about session length, frequency, and treatment goals. These rules can change mid-treatment without notice. A significant amount of time is also spent outside of sessions submitting claims, responding to denials, and navigating paperwork. This is time that isn’t reimbursed and takes away from client care. By remaining private pay, I’m able to protect your confidentiality, focus on your goals rather than insurance requirements, and offer therapy that’s flexible, individualized, and guided by what’s most helpful for you. Depending on a few factors, I may accept it in the future.

We use Simple Practice or Zoom Healthcare. Both are HIPAA compliant. It works the same as in person therapy. I ask that you ensure you are in a private space.

In your first session, we’ll focus on getting oriented and helping you feel comfortable as we talk about what brings you in. I’ll ask questions to help us understand what you’re hoping for in therapy, as well as what you don’t want or what hasn’t worked for you in the past. If you’re brand new to therapy, we can also talk through what to expect and what you’d like this experience to feel like. We’ll begin to identify goals at a pace that feels manageable, with no pressure to share more than you’re ready for. By the end, we’ll talk about next steps and whether this feels right for you.

The length of therapy varies for each person and depends on your goals, what you’re working through, and how things unfold over time. Some people come for short-term support around a specific concern, while others benefit from longer-term work. We’ll regularly check in about your goals and progress and adjust as needed. My aim is not to keep you in therapy indefinitely, but to support you in a way that feels helpful and appropriate for you. You’re always in control of whether and how long you continue.
